Knoll Furniture Collections

Clima Home is proud to be a distributor of Knoll furniture in Miami and throughout South Florida. Our commitment to providing superior client satisfaction is directly in line with the elegance and prestige that Knoll furniture exudes.

The very mention of the brand Knoll instantly calls to mind the word “genius,” for no other furniture company embodies the collective genius that makes the mid-century modern design era so iconic. The legendary designers and architects of the period – names like Ludwig Mies van der Rohe, Eero Saarinen, Hans Wegner, George Nakashima, Jens Risom, and countless others – live on in perpetuity through Knoll’s awe-inspiring portfolio. The enormous contribution of these geniuses continues to be celebrated; their work is often imitated, but never equaled. And when it comes to authentic mid-century modern pieces that exemplify superlative furniture design, there is simply no other brand that comes close to Knoll.

Knoll has spent the decades since its inception in 1938 applying its keen insight into how people interact with their environments, thus delivering transformative workplace and home experiences, all the while meeting a growing demand for efficiency and ergonomic excellence.

For nearly 85 years, Knoll has remained true to the Bauhaus design philosophy that modern furniture should complement architectural space, not compete with it. Modern design has been the brand’s guiding principle, and this passion has been shared by customers and design professionals worldwide.

To collect Knoll furniture is to acquire precious works of art. When you purchase an authentic piece from Knoll –

be it a Saarinen Womb Chair, Platner Dining Table, Mies van der Rohe Barcelona Couch, or any other – you’re investing in an heirloom-quality design that has longevity and lasting value. When any of Knoll’s iconic pieces grace your home, they are instantly recognized and admired. Access to the Knoll collection is a privilege reserved for the elite and discerning customer, and Clima Home is the gateway.

History

Orphaned at age 12, Michigan-born Florence Knoll (nee Schust) demonstrated an early interest in architecture. In hopes of nurturing this passion, in 1932, her guardian enrolled her at the Kingswood School for Girls, adjacent to the Cranbrook Academy of Art. While there, Florence befriended Eliel Saarinen, who invited her to study at Cranbrook, where her career in design began.

Warmly embraced by the Saarinen family, Florence formed a close relationship with Eliel’s son, Eero. She then went on to study under some of the greatest 20th-century architects, including Walter Gropius, Marcel Breuer, and Ludwig Mies van der Rohe. In 1941, Florence moved to New York, where she met Hans Knoll, a member of a prominent German furniture-making family who was in the early years of establishing the Hans G. Knoll Furniture Company. With Florence’s design skills and Hans’ business acumen, the pair grew the company into an international arbiter of style and design.

Both Hans and Florence embraced the creative genius of Cranbrook and the Bauhaus School to create new types of furniture and environments for the workplace. After the tragic death of Hans in 1955, Florence led the company, first as president and then as director of design and development. She retired a decade later. In 2019, Florence Knoll Bassett passed away in Coral Gables, Florida, at the age of 101.

Over the years, Knoll has changed hands in ownership several times. Yet despite its immense expansion, international prestige, and countless products, Hans and Florence’s unique approach – where craftsmanship and technology are united through design – continues to shape the philosophies and values it lives by today. In 2021, Knoll was acquired by Herman Miller, announcing a new corporate name: MillerKnoll.
