History of Marset Lighting

Marset lighting is one of a kind to any environment. For those individuals looking to create distinctive moods and effects, Marset USA accomplishes this and much more. When it comes to design and subtle distinction, Marset goes above and beyond just lighting. With an international reputation for excellence in lighting, Marset has established itself at the forefront of creating enhanced experiences through illumination.

Where it all started

Marset lighting was founded in 1976 by Paco Marset in Barcelona, Spain. Prior to starting his own business, Marset honed his skills in smelting, a process of extracting metal through heating and melting of metal. By the 90s, the Marset brand began to gain recognition as one of high quality and unmatched innovative design.

During this period, the third generation of family members used this brand positioning to expand the company’s reach internationally. Further solidifying the company’s position on the global stage in 2009, Marset lighting began using internationally known designers and collaborators.

History of Marset LightingMarset global presence

From Spain to Germany and everywhere in between, Marset’s global presence is enhanced by its integration of global designers and influences. With a solid commitment to superior design and innovation in a niche market, it’s no surprise they’ve won numerous awards including Spain’s National Design Prize 2015 and Best of Year product design award in 2014, given by the Interior Design US magazine among others.

Unique Scandanavian and Mediterranean influenced product lines by Christophe Mathieu and Joan Gasper combine the precise lines of architectural design with the dramatic flair of artwork.

Marset’s influence can be felt throughout the US as well. Their lighting is on full display in a New York Starbucks, the Virgin Hotel in Chicago, Primark in Boston, and The Epiphany in California. Other prominent showcases for Marset lighting around the world include YouTube’s main office located in London, Sony’s main office in Madrid, and various world-class hotels in Berlin, Dominican Republic, and Barcelona.

With over 85% of exports to over 50 countries around the world, Marset lighting business is booming and continues to expand with main markets continuing to be the USA and Europe. Recently, a new subsidiary has been established in New York, with additional showrooms located in New York, Milan, and Barcelona.

Marset popular products

The most recent additions to the Marset USA line include the eclectic Discoco and the Dipping Light. Designed by Christophe Mathieu, the Discoco is the gem of the Marset lighting collection. It’s quality and refined design has remained intact for over 10 years with a recent upgrade of oak as a new finish. Available in a 27-inch model, the Discoco maintains its internal metallic structure with a new nickel graphite finish.

The Dipping Light created by Jordi Canudas is an unconventional take on the typical table lamp. The most recent line expansion has turned this addition into a portable lamp, wall lamp, suspension lamp, and an additional size option. The horizontal color blocking will remain the same with new options for lampstands, expanding usability.
