On February 7,2012 Knoll announced the acquisition of Richard Schultz Design and as of March 5,2012 that acquisition became official.
At this time Clima Home is happy to announce the addition of Knoll Outdoor Products to our existing collections of Fine Quality Outdoor Furnishings! Clima Home will continue to offer the Richard Schultz 1966 Collection as well as the Petal Table Collection along with all of Knoll’s Outdoor Products with significant furniture designs from Hary Bertoia, Jorge Pensi, Maya Lin, Don Chadwick and Massimo and Lelia Vignelli. Clima Home and Knoll will be launching this program on April 16, 2012.
The acquisition is a fitting new chapter in a story that began over 60 years ago. Notes company president Richard Schultz, “My mother was hired by Florence (Shu) Knoll in 1950 to work with her on interior design projects. My father was hired by Hans [Knoll] and Shu in 1951… Today we complete the circle, [bringing] our entire product range back home to Knoll.”
In the intervening six decades since the Schultz family broke off from Knoll, their path has never strayed far from that of the older brand. Richard Schultz Design’s well-known 1966 Collection of outdoor furniture, as well as their Petal Table system, were originally designed for Knoll, and were subsequently re-introduced by the Shultzes with the permission of their now parent company.
Peter Schultz said, “Our award winning designs in the modern tradition are a perfect complement to the Knoll portfolio. We look forward to our products joining the KnollStudio Collection of residential and workplace furniture.”
The Richard Schultz Design plant is only a short distance from Knoll’s, making the transition that much smoother, and Richard Schultz will be kept on as a consultant. Says Andrew B.
