Japanese-American architect and master woodworker George Nakashima was the shining light of the American Studio furniture movement. An artisan who favored a craft-based approach to furniture design, his custom tables and benches celebrate the singular, natural beauty of wood grains and burls. Knoll has offered Nakashima’s Straight Chair — the furniture designer’s modern take on the spindle-backed Windsor chair — since 1946, and it continues to be a standout of the Knoll furniture anthology in the category of wooden furniture.
