Richard Schultz 1966

Richard Schultz is widely considered to be one of the most influential designers of high-end outdoor furniture. During his time with Knoll, he created some of their most unique and iconic outdoor collections, one of them being the 1966 series. Shultz was approached by Florence Knoll herself to design some “decent” outdoor furniture, as she called it, and from that request, the 1966 series was born.

Here at CLIMA, we have a passion for furniture that carries a piece of history within. The 1966 series made by Knoll Furniture has been gracing luxurious outdoor spaces for over 50 years, and now it can be a part of your collection as well.

Gorgeous Outdoor Furniture That’s Resilient to Weather and Wind
It took Richard Schultz a long time to come up with a design he was happy with. His main concern was to create a furniture line that could withstand the corrosive ocean air and retain its gorgeous exterior even after several seasons. He started experimenting with cast aluminum and organic forms until he settled for the now-iconic design of the 1966 series. By using an aluminum frame, he achieved the level of resilience he was looking for and was also able to manipulate the material into a sleek and modern form.

Outdoor Furniture That Set the Bar High
The 1966 series was received as a breath of fresh air and quickly changed the landscape of the industry. Thanks to Knoll and Richard Schultz, contemporary outdoor furniture was never the same.
